Between the late night performances, the radio sessions, and the abundant etcs., everybody’s seen enough clips of “While You Wait For The Others” and “Two Weeks” to know that Grizzly Bear are capable of harmonizing in a live setting. On the flip, we haven’t really seen any professional video proof that they can pull off any of the other Veckatimest harmonies in a live setting. Maybe they can’t do them well! Or maybe you should get real, of course they can do them so well. This AOL Interface session provides a deeper preview into the fun Grizzly ticketholders can expect on this tour. Last night’s sell-out at Town Hall had a choir, tonight’s features a string quartet, but most every other show (including Sunday’s in Brooklyn) will get what you see here, the band scaled to its core components. Which tends to be a good thing.

Nathan Williams’s beer-soaked non-performance at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound Festival was more of a mess than Psychedelic Horseshit’s anti-Wavves rant, if you can believe it. Shitgaze at P4K.
As we’ve mentioned, Major Lazer is “Paper Planes” producers Switch and Diplo’s collaborative and conceptual dancehall project. As the concept goes, he’s “a Jamaican commando who lost his arm in the secret Zombie War of 1984,” etc. (e.g., he gets around on a rocket-powered silver-surfer board). Clearly someone of Major Lazer’s stature (and super-powered prosthetic limbs) also has a bunch of friends, which is why Mr. Lexx and Santigold contribute to “Hold The Line.” But this animated video is all about the Major and those annoying vampire zombies.

This footage of BTW Real Estate doing “Beach Comber” was captured in one continuous, brightly shadowed shot by Ray C. at the Annex, NYC on 5/27. As mentioned a ways back, the guys are a super tight live band, so the one shot approach makes good sense — almost like a dare. A couple of weeks ago we heard an early take of the song as part of the Underwater Peoples’ Summertime Showcase sampler.

Everybody loves Memorial Day weekend, but nobody loves Memorial Day weekend like those that make it to Sasquatch! As friends have returned from their treks across country, they’ve shared nothing but raves for this year’s festival, from the Gorge’s breathtaking views to this year’s fantastic lineup. Even the public indecency seems particularly magical on the Sasquatch! grounds: at Coachella all we got was a wizard penis; according to fest-vet Whitney Pastorek, the Gorge had 22,000 people applauding a couple having sex on the ridge. Top that, Bonnapalooza. We sent Chona Kasinger to capture the non-sexual goings on at this year’s party, including Jane’s Addiction, YYYs, Girl Talk, Santigold (inviting the crowd onstage, M.I.A. style), Shearwater, Animal Collective, and so many more. Enjoy.
You can hear beats from the long-delayed Detox in the cola’s new “Trust Me, I’m A Doctor” ad campaign. In his spot, Dre claims “scientific tests prove when you drink Dr. Pepper slow, the 23 flavors taste even better.” Watch and learn.
Last month’s Red Hot all-star show found Dirty Projectors, David Byrne, Feist, the National, Bon Iver, and other indie luminaries sharing the stage at Radio City Music Hall. Now you can stream an hour and 45 minutes of the show at NPR.
Natasha Khan’s newest Two Suns video treatment features the same slo-mo dreaminess as Letterman-approved “Daniel,” but with less of a sinister (and modern dancing and Karate Kid) feel. New single “Pearl’s Dream,” the track she chose to close out her pre-encore set at Bowery and MHOW, gives us Khan in form-fitting garb (complete with wings borrowed from Brandon Flowers), a homemade solar system, lots of smoke and steam, and a cagey wolf. Yeasayer’s Ira Wolf Tuton plays bass on the track (as well as “Daniel”), but we’re not sure if it’s a reference to him, or just because every good new age-y pop video should include a wolf. Clearly in the know, a second Khan wearing a blond wig and dressed for sadistic business, applauds the performance.

It’s fitting Portland pop crew Nurses decided to call their new collection Apple’s Acre: They could’ve easily retitled it Apples In Stereo’s Sound. It’s not that the trio doesn’t bring their own details to the Elephant 6 thing — their take’s more obviously lo-fi, raw, strange, and in a song like “Technicolor,” sorta early Devendra Banhart-esque — but the overlaps are there, and should be a treat for folks who enjoy breezy vintage-sounding psychedelia. See, for instance, “Caterpillar Playground.”

The album with the unbelievably poetic title (srsly) is introducing itself with, fittingly, “Introducing Palace Players.” Mew aren’t hiding the fact that they are Mew — androgynously porcelain vocally, stuttered up and syncopated in the undercurrent, lilting and dreamy overtop, weaving in and out of each layer all prog like. It’s not as epic sounding as their past epic moments, winding more than charging, but Mew fans should dig in plenty.
